To keep your teeth strong and healthy, you can follow some simple teeth care tips as stated in the section.

Prevent tooth decay by building healthy dental habits

Although parents try a lot to prevent tooth ache and tooth decay among their kids, still some kids show signs of teeth decay even before starting their junior school. Children from 10-15 years of age develop cavities, causing pain and discomfort. So, it is important to begin dental care much at the time when the first tooth appears. So, when your child is 6 months old, you must start dental care. Use damp and clean cloth to wipe the gums and teeth. At the age of 3 years, you may let the child brush his own teeth.

Proper sealants to avoid trouble

Permanent molars emerge around age 6. To prevent decay in the fissures and pits, thin protective coatings can be applied to back teeth chewing surfaces. Sealants can fabulously reduce those caries. Get in touch with your dentist to know about sealants.

Brush your teeth twice daily

Tooth decay and gum problems are major issues nowadays. Around 3/4th of teenagers have gum issues. Gum issues and gum bleeding are dangerous for the overall health and wellbeing. Apart from brushing your teeth daily, you need to ensure that the brush is changed every 3 months. Those teenagers who carry braces, they must use special toothbrush. Have a talk with your orthodontist to learn how to care for the braces.

Avoid too much fluoride

Fluoride can strengthen the teeth enamel to make it less prone to decays. If your toothpaste has fluoride, you must use the paste in less quantity. Kids must use fluoride sparingly.

Chew a sugar free chewing gum

Along with brushing and flossing, you must rinse your mouth thoroughly after each meal or at least chew a sugar free chewing gum. This may increase the flow of saliva to wash away bacteria or neutralize acids.

Wear mouth guards during recreations

Activities like skating, rollerblading are healthy for the body but they may cause tooth injuries due to falling or blows. Custom fitted mouth guards should be considered to save your teeth from injuries.

Quit smoking or go tobacco free

Tobacco not only stains your teeth but also increases the chance of gum ailments. Quit smoking if you have the habit or else go for smokeless tobacco.

Avoid sweets and eat balanced diet

When you are eating, eat smart. You must eat a balanced diet which constitutes green veggies, nuts, grains, fruits and dairy products. Such items will reduce the chance of gum diseases. You should also avoid sweets.

By following the above tips, you can maintain your teeth at every age. Schedule an appointment with the dentist to gather more information on teeth care.
